Rhode Island's Emergency Management Agency held a press conference on Thursday. Officials urged residents to put together emergency kits to tide them over for up to three days.There were no immediate plans for evacuations. Lt. Col. Denis Riel, spokesman for the Rhode Island National Guard, said personal preparedness is important. "It's not a matter of if it hits us it's when," he said.
Saturday's Newport Bucket Regatta, a yachting event in Rhode Island, has been canceled. A gala dinner was moved up to Friday.

(Aside from the obvious, isn't it more of a question of if than when? I mean, if it hits RI, which it probably but not definitely will, it's pretty much gonna be Sunday night/Monday morning, right? And anyway, more than "if" and "when," isn't the more important question "how hard"?)

i was hoping the storm would blow a bunch of tied-at-the-sleeves sweaters our way...
Look on the bright side: at least now we all have a gala dinner to attend tonight.
i think there should be a "peace above as below" gala event where a private jet with a capacity of roughly 40 elites will soar in style inside the eye of the storm - departing from nyc in concordance with its landfall and then landing in beautiful nova scotia as they watch it pass back out to sea.
Only if Cthulhu is allowed to reach up through the eye and drag the private jet into the briny depths.
The elites were afraid that a hurricane might undo their facelifts.
