Not really an update, but I thought this was a nice touch in the lead NYT story But the soldiers refused protesters’ pleas to open fire on the security police. And may I please remind everyone to read Naguib Mahfouz, especially The Cairo Trilogy. The idea that fiction cannot be true dies on every page.
