Men in power

So, Anthony Weiner, blah blah etc.

But also:
Does a woman who claims to have been raped ask for a female detective? That’s taken as a sign of possible deception. “I am betting nine out of 10 times, when a woman asks for a female detective the story is going to be untrue,” says [commander of the Manhattan Special Victims Squad Lt. Adam] Lamboy. The operative theory is that women who are lying think female cops will be more receptive to their stories.

I mean, I need no specific, situational evidence to know, or at least strongly suspect, that any person in a position of power--any politician, any cop--is a huge fucking asshole. And I need no specific, situational evidence to know, or at least strongly suspect, that that assholery will extend both to those these people know personally and to all the nameless and faceless they affect with their actions as people in power. And, god, make that person a man, and give them power over women, and fucking watch out, here comes an asshole.

I'm betting ten times out of ten it's true.

How many female police administrators have you met?

you might not need any specific, situational evidence, but that's a damn fine illustrative quote right there.

Having been all over Blogland, I can honestly not think of anything a raped woman could say that most men would NOT interpret as a sign that she was lying.

Yeah, that includes most Lefty dude blogs as well. >:

ms_xeno--Duh, she can say "No, he didn't rape me! He's a lefty hero, how could he have? I must be a honey trap."

mp--eeeugh with me.

High Arka--luckily, I don't think I've ever met any police administrators, ever, heh.

I see you are still inclined to waving your big feminist dick around cringe-makingly. Despite what Ms Xeno says, I see more of this sort of feminist preening going on among lefty maies than victim-blaming. It'd just another sort of pissing contest. Boys besting boys.

Gross.

Anonymous, considering that one of the things that was bugging me when I took my hiatus earlier this year was that I had realized that I hadn't been being feminist enough, you might want to trot along elsewhere.

Anyway, I'm not going to deny that I'm a man and therefore have been socialized since birth (despite the best efforts and intentions of my parents) to engage in pissing contests and dick-waving. And I'm sure I still do it. But if admitting that and trying to change it can only be just another contest, we might as well just kill ourselves now.

Of course, I have a feeling that pissing contests don't actually bother you all that much.

Big feminist cat dick, to be precise.

I'm not sure I want to think about that...

Ethan,

I'm afraid you've made some of us very uncomfortable, what with your grand themes of caring -- and of cats.
